Narrative Structure

When we start telling a story, I think that we must begin with a general introduction

as we do in an essay in order to place the reader in the right place and give him

clues as to where the story will lead him. As an introduction, a story must answer the questions of where, what, when before the characters are introduced in the second

round. The most effective way of introducing and developing characters, I think,

is through dialogue and description of the personage by giving minute details

of her/his clothing, manners, stature and status, and physical description. The

bulk of the story must contain the plot which includes the action and, most

specifically, the conflict and/or the controversy that must be resolved in the

end of the story. E.B.
